Testimony

By Steven Bustrin

How did SicSociety become what it is today?

  • Steven: “SicSociety was introduced first as Steven’s Innovative Culture (S.I.C) my Junior year of high school in 2009 where I was in economics class and I just had this inspiration to have a t-shirt company. So what I did was I bought a composition notebook and started drawing ideas. I had all sorts of t-shirt designs with sketches of what I wanted. I kept that composition notebook all the way into college.

Over the period of time from my Junior year of High School to College I had collected a bunch of information from being involved with other businesses, such as Cutco, and then getting involved with an online cellphone recycling company. One of my ideas, that almost happened, was creating a cologne and using it as a tool to raise money for people who needed it and possibly start a scholarship fund. But it didn’t work out.

Once college hit, I put my composition notebook in my drawer of my desk so when I had any ideas I could write them down.

After my freshman and sophomore year of college, I had this notebook full of ideas and didn’t know what to do with it. Friends at school knew me as the guy who flipped stuff off of Craigslist. The idea triggered to write a book on how to make money online using Craigslist and so I used my book to write all my ideas for this book.

Pretty soon, none of the stuff in my composition notebook had made sense. I really just had a bunch of ideas and past history of entrepreneur stuff that I had accomplished, but no vision.

Since my major was Elementary Education, it didn’t make sense that I would do any business stuff during the school year, but I was that guy. So in between my Sophomore and Junior year of college, I prayed that God would show me what He wanted me to do with my business talents to build up the kingdom of Heaven. Well just happened that my friend had showed me his bracelets that he created. And it dawned on me that I wanted to get involved and create some of my own bracelets.

So I pulled out ideas from my composition notebook, using the idea of keeping S.I.C but calling it Strong In Christ, and the idea of raising money for people who need it. I used the skills that I learned from the entry sales position at Cutco and started marketing online.

I didn’t plan on any of this to happen but God put it on my heart that this was something that I am going to do to raise up the Kingdom of Heaven through these witness bands.

about two months after I started selling bracelets online, the website started getting attention and people wanted to help out! So now I basically have a team built up of people who want to help out with the vision God gave me and it’s been a blessing!”

What is your vision with the company?

  • Steven: “Well, right now I have a blog set up where authors can share their testimony and devotions that they would like to share; and bracelets that help raise money for certain mission trips and eventually I would want to set up a scholarship fund for my school to help with students who don’t have proper funding to go to a college.

My goal with the brand of the company, SicSociety, is to build up with merchandise to help raise money by eventually creating t-shirts and even sweatshirts! What is different with this company than any other company, is that I am only advertising through professionals that are in the world standing for Christ. It is hard to be in the world and be fully committed to Christ, but there are those guys out there and it’s awesome to see those guys when you do.

God has put on my heart that I should continue doing this to help strengthen the body of Christ. I hope that I can reach people globally and establish connections to help raise money for those overseas.”

What makes your company different from the rest?

  • Steven: “Like I said before, I am establishing connections with those in the world that are professions either through sports or music to raise awareness to the movement of SicSociety. When I was growing up, I was into athletics, but I didn’t know who were Christian athletes. The only Christian anything that I saw on TV and heard on the radio was through the music industry. So what I want to do with this site, especially the blog, is have Christian athletes and professionals share some of their life and what it is like as a Christian in the professional industry. I have established some connections so far and it’s been a fun process meeting these guys.”

What are your core beliefs?

  • I believe that we were created in the likeness image of God so that we could love one another in fellowship here on earth so that one day we will have fellowship with God in Heaven
  • I believe that Jesus Christ is the son of God, who descended from Heaven to overcome death and prove that he is God by dying on the cross for our sins and resurrecting from the grave
  • I believe in the Trinity: God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit.
  • I believe that we are created with a purpose, and that is to love one another as God first loved us.
  • I believe, as a Christian, that we are called to go out into the world and share the Gospel through the Bible.
